This is not the utter disaster you are all making this out to be.
If you really want to continue using the Leopard Fink binaries you
already have built, all you need to do is rebuild the packages on
Snow Leopard that you installed on Leopard since X11-2.4.0 was
installed (and only the ones that complile against X11 at that).
Jeremy pointed out that the Snow Leopard X11 is in between
X11-2.3.3.2 and X11-2.4.0. So, this solution should work without a
huge level of effort.
This is just an inconvenience that can easily be fixed with several
hours of rebuilding which is far faster and simpler than rebuilding
the entire fink tree that you are complaining about.
I like that news. But that prompts another questions. How exactly do I
know what I've built since I installed v2.4.0? I use Fink and run
updates periodically. The Fink website has news on how to go about
updating Fink and how to upgrade Perl in case you need it. But it
doesn't say anything about which packages need to be updated to 10.6.
I did a quick check of X11 and my most-used X11 application and it
seem to still work, but it was just a cursory check and I'll need to
spend more time with it. I also update it often and don't know yet
whether I'll be able to recompile it with the new OS.
Thanks for the help.
