Thank god!
As has been discussed for months (and it is now beginning to show up
on the fink-users list) this will prevent you from rebuilding anything
that uses gnu autotools and links with X11-related packages.
Simple fix:
sudo rm -f /sw/lib/*.la
I've told you guys this since Leopard shipped. Just nuke the .la files,
don't distribute them... they're useless and redundant on darwin.
This is not so easy. By default, gnu autotools-based build systems
produce *.la files. Removing them from the live Fink tree is not enough;
they will reappear, because they are contained in the *.deb packages
that can be swapped in during the bjuild process.
Maybe Apple should have contacted the autotools developers long ago and
told them what darwin will need: No *.la files, no X11 detection using
xmkmf. Currently, there is not a lot of software that will build on Mac
OS X with the standard "./configure; make".
