I use the attached ~/.Xmodemap file to set X11 mappings on my Mac
Mini so that my Microsoft ``Natural'' keyboard does the right
thing, particularly the numeric keypad which does not work
properly in python curses applications without this. BTW, I'm
not sure that the emacs mappings actually work as I have never
really gotten my head around emacs enough to actually use it.
The command ``xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap'' invokes this, although I think
that this is normally supposed to be automatic in xinitrc files
on many X11 systems. If I were to use this on a laptop with an
external keyboard, I would probably put the file in a different
file, say ~/.Xmodmap.external, and manually set it when needed.
