Hey All,
I noticed that there was a thread back in september about the spectrum window in VNMR being broken.
Basically there are 3 windows the program uses, and one of them isn't working. It shows all text as black (although it's instructed not to), doesn't refresh properly and doesn't respond to clicks in it.
I'm having the same problem described in that post, and I was wondering if anyone ever found the solution.
Thanks!
Nicolas

Eh... hmm... this is certainly odd.
What version of X11 were you using before you updated? The only thing that I could really think this might be related to is the alpha channel issue which is present in 2.2.3 (and thus in the 10.5.5 version as well). This was fixed in 2.3.1. Have you tried 2.3.1?
If that doesn't work, I'd recommend removing all traces of X11 from your system: rm -rf /usr/X11 /System/Library/Launch*/org.x.* /Applications/ Utilities/X11.app
Then install X11User.pkg from your Leopard 10.5 DVD. Then install the 2.1.2 update from xquartz.macosforge.org and let me know if that works. That shouldn't be too much different than the versions shipped in 10.5.2, then try updating to 2.1.3, then 2.1.4, then 2.2.0.1, then 2.2.1, then 2.2.3, and tell me which version introduces the problem.

Hello all, I've been merrily using Varian's VNMR remotely via X11 with a solaris box for some time, however, today's 10.5.5 X11 update broke functionality with VNMR. Specifically, there are 3 windows within VNMR, the "menu"/command window, which works just fine, the "spectral" window, wherein directories are navagated and spectra are viewed (which does not work, see below), and the "output" window, where various informations are displayed (Works fine).
The problem here is that VNMR's spectral window, once full of information now remains all black despite any file browsing or spectral viewing activities attempted. I've confirmed that this is an update problem as several people in my lab have updated, while others have not, and universally those who have not updated have no trouble while those who have, always do. I have tried deleting the com.apple.x11 prefs and tried the tricks found in previous x11-users posts:
http://lists.apple.com/archives/x11-users/2005/Jan/msg00093.html (& others from several years ago)
to no avail. I have also tried to downgrade by installing various different X11 versions from the Xquartz site: http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki without any luck.
Does anyone know how to solve this vexing problem? I can't seem to find any errors in logfiles or the console anywhere unfortunately.
