Hi, Jeremy.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I tried this update and it didn't seem
to make any difference. I can confirm that I've had other fink-
related problems, although not all X11 related. Some seem to be perl
related (and I've seen all the stuff about the update breaking perl),
others I can't figure out. There doesn't appear to be discussion on
the fink bug tracker so I don't know how widespread this is.
David.

I've seen this reported, and it seems related to fink somehow. I
don't know why... just anecdotally every report has mentioned fink,
and the only other user I could communicate with about this
mentioned that only fink apps caused the problem (even xclipboard
from fink versus xclipboard from Tiger). When I try the same apps
from Macports (or out of /usr/X11/bin), the issue isn't triggered.
2009-001 saw some security fixes for freetype. These updates were
cherry picked in to update our ancient version of freetype (2.1.5,
IIRC). In doing so, there seems to be some interaction problem
between the version of freetype shipped with 2009-001 and fink.
I have updated freetype to the full 2.3.8 version (as opposed to
just cherry picking security patches) and the user reporting this
problem has mentioned this fixes the problem. If you don't want to
wait for an "Official" fix, you can download this updated freetype
lib here:

Just choose the correct one (intel / ppc), download, decompress,
and drop it in place over your existing /usr/X11/lib/libfreetype.
6.3.dylib

Hello. After installing the 2009-001 update this morning, when I
try to run emacs or xemacs (both from fink) my entire X11
crashes. I realize that 2009-001 broke many things, but I'm not
sure where the problem is here. Note that I am still running
10.4.11.
The crash log is below:
