Hi,
vnc was just an example, there are other ways of having a second X
session running (e.g. On a second monitor , or on the same monitor but
in a different ctrl-alt-FX ).
This is getting a little OT, but ...
1. You will need vnc installed. I got mine (tightvnc) via macports,
but there are other ways.
> sudo port install tightvnc
2. Start one vnc server with
> vncserver :1
If it is the first time you have run vncserver, this will set various
things up for you. Once you have done this I suggest you kill this
session with
> vncserver -kill :1
Then, edit ~/.vnc/xstartup - It should contain
#!/bin/sh
xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
twm &
That last line starts the twm window manager. We are going to change
this to a different WM, so I suggest comment that line out.
3. Restart your vncserver
> vncserver :1
4. Connect to the vncserver
> vncviewer :1
This should bring up a window with an xterm in it, but no window
manager running. We are going to start gnome in this one so run
> gnone-session&
That should start a full gnome session in the vnc window.
5. Now, we are going to start a KDE session at the same time ! Do (new
terminal)
> vncserver :2
> vncviewer :2
This time, start KDE with
> startkde&
Thats it. You should now have a gnome session in one vncviewer and a
KDE in another, running on the same machine with the same user.
I used vnc above, but that was just a means to get more than one X
session running. But, as I said, there are other ways.

I was just curious That you can or can not do this. You mentioned
using (connection vnc) for one of the desktops. How do you use the
vnc connection?

Just out of curiosity may I ask why you do this ? KDE apps work
perfectly on a gnome desktop, and vice versa, so I cannot really
see why you would want to limit yourself in this way ?
I for instance prefer to run a KDE desktop, but also use various
gnome apps in case where 'gnome' offers the best tool for the job ...
cheers Chris
