At some point recently X11 quit working.
Previously all was well. If I started a terminal and typed "xterm -
sb &" and xterm would pop up, after starting up X11.
Or if I typed "gv file.ps" and ghostscript window would pop up.
Now, neither of these work.
Now if I try to quit X11, it will not stop, or at least starts up
again.
When I try to quit a terminal session it warns me that "Closing this
window will terminate the running processes: login, tcsh, perl, sh,
xset."
Do you have xset in your ~/.profile or ~/.bashrc ? It shouldn't be
there and is probably the problem.
I also have the odd Display variable: DISPLAY=/tmp/launch-nKjMmC/:0
Earlier today I blindly followed some advice in this list and executed
sudo ln -s libexpat.1.dylib /usr/X11R6/lib/libexpat.0.dylib
since libexpat.0.dylib was missing in the X11R6/lib/ directory.
Eh... no, please undo that. Those instructions were for users who
upgraded from Panther to Tiger without selecting X11 at install time.
Actually improved things - previously when I executed the "xterm -sb
&" command from a terminal the command prompt never came back and I
would have to quit the application. Now it comes back but no xterm
appears.
Are you sure? If you put the & in there, it always runs in the
background and will always give you a prompt back...
