I am running X11, the Gimp, Neo Office on an Apple iMac for more
than a year with no problem.
Just recently (since last week) I switched on the Gimp, which caused
the background with my desktop and all other icons/programs to
disappear including the dock. I could still work with the Gimp
however, no problem, only when I closed the Gimp, I was stuck with a
blank screen, no programs no dock etc. in short an Apple Crash! And
one of the worst. Can't get back into the desktop, can't switch it
off in the normal way.
The only thing to do was to switch of the computer with the switch
on the back of the iMac. But when you switch it on again you're
stuck with the same empty screen. Only when literally I pull the
mains plug from it's socket and plug it in after a few seconds, then
switch the iMac on again, all is normal again as long as I do not
touch the Gimp or X11. The same thing happens when I just start X11
from the applications folder.
Has anyone out there any idea what has gone wrong here?
From what I read on an X11 users website the problem may lay with
Apple after installing new security measures. If this is so it would
be nice if you'd look into this problem and do some repairs, so that
in the future I and others will be able to use Gimp and X11.
Thanks and keep me posted.
Jaap
