Well my insights are mostly limited to X11. 2.3.3.2 had a MAJOR update
to our local libGL. I wonder if the older libGL was working, so that's
why I asked about the 2.3.2 version of X11. If you could please install
that version over your existing install and test it, I'd appreciate the
feedback.
It turns out that it is impossible to install 2.3.2 over 2.3.3.2: I
tried it twice, but both times /Applications/Utilities/X11.app was *not*
replaced by the older version, so that the resulting installation
produced a crash:
Library not loaded: /usr/X11/lib/libpixman-1.0.dylib
Referenced from: /Applications/Utilities/X11.app/Contents/MacOS/X11.bin
Reason: Incompatible library version: X11.bin requires version 15.0.0
or later, but libpixman-1.0.dylib provides version 13.0.0
It was also a very annoying perpetual crash that could only be stopped
by killing launchd (and then rebooting), because X11 tried to restart
immediately after the crash.
From the install.log:

"./Applications/Utilities/X11.app"
Jun 17 08:40:22 mbookp payloadExtractor[882]: Skipping
"./Applications/Utilities/X11.app/Contents"
Jun 17 08:40:22 mbookp payloadExtractor[882]: Skipping
"./Applications/Utilities/X11.app/Contents/MacOS"
and so on.
