I do have 10.5.6 actually but I don't know why I have such an old version of X11. Should it be notifying me about updates? Can I install the newer version on top of the previous? Or is there some specific steps I need to take to update?
I appreciate all your help in all this! (I'm a newbie trying to learn!)
Thanks!
Laura

Thats quite old, IIRC 10.5.5 contained 2.1.5? And the latest release
is 2.3.2.1, which you can download from
<http://xquartz.macosforge.org/>. Although if your X11 is reporting
itself as 2.1.1 you'll need to update to 10.5.6 if you want to install
2.3.2.1.
