I do have 10.5.6 actually but I don't know why I have such an old
version of
X11. Should it be notifying me about updates? Can I install the newer
version on top of the previous? Or is there some specific steps I
need to
take to update?
This list is notified in all updates, they are not available through
Software Update as they are not official Apple updates. The Xquartz
updates are full updates so you should be able to install them ontop
of any previous version, or a system that previously have X11
installed.
Still, X11 sees updates as part of Software Updates with the rest of
the OS (just at a lower rate than updates are available here). 2.1.1
was part of Mac OSX 10.5.2. 2.1.5 was part of Mac OSX 10.5.5. I'm
really curious why you have such a dated version of X11.
