I would like to resuscitate the following thread related to problems with GTK and cairo. We are migrating to our new server running Snow Leopard Server and I am trying to build an X11 emacs with the GTK toolkit from scratch (I don't like the Lucid toolkit!). I do not want to use MacPorts or Fink because of the extra libraries and applications being populated during installation (for instance, the extra perl executable screwing up the perl OS X deployment!).
Similarly to Luis, I get the same GCContext errors when using the window menu of emacs or when using gtk-demo if I compiled Cairo and Pango with Quartz support. If I disable quartz support, I don't get anymore errors when I fire up gtk-demo but the X11 emacs become extremely slow to render its window (really extremely slow... A minute to get the display from a server meters from where I am on a Gigabit network!).
I understand that might not be the best mailing list for this problem but any help would be appreciated!
Did Louis solved his problem? Any clue what could cause the X11 to become so slow and shaky (it just froze a second ago).
Thanks
Marco
Could enabling the Quartz backend in cairo be responsible in any way? Maybe I'll rebuild cairo without that?

My guess is that you somehow enabled some GTK/Quartz option instead of GTK/X11 ... but I see the Xlib message about RANDR, so ... /shrug

I've been compiling the various libs and executables "from scratch." Never seen this output before. Any idea what might be generating it? I've been searching the Web, but so far I'm clueless.

Weird... I just ran gtk-demo just fine (all libs and exec from MacPorts)

After updating to cairo-1.8.8 and pango-1.25.5, I built gtk +-2.16.6 on my MacBook running 10.6. As a check, I ran gtk-demo from the command line. It seemed to run correctly, but I got a bunch of what seem to be CoreGraphics related error messages. (I'm guessing that's what they are.)
This is probably not an X11 issue, but can anyone suggest what is causing the errors?
