Thanks, but it doesn't fix my problem. I downloaded the X11.bin
and installed it as:
/Applications/Utilities/XQuartz.app/Contents/MacOS/X11.bin
then quit and restarted X11, but I see the same error. Did I
install it in the right place?
"About X11" says "XQuartz 2.3.5 (xorg-server 1.4.2-apple53)".
That "About X11" is the X11.app from Snow Leopard, not the
XQuartz.app that you updated...
Ugh, you're right. I tried again, this time running XQuartz, and
now my qemu session successfully opens the X window (and this is
with the original X11.bin, I backed out X11.bin-PR-423). So, my
guess is that my problem was due to some mismatch between X11.app
and things in /opt/X11, which come from XQuartz. For example, my
$PATH searches /opt/X11/bin before /usr/X11/bin. But its working
now, so I'm not going to worry about it.
But when I run XQuartz, I've lost my X11 application menu. Is there
an easy way to copy over that info from X11 to XQuartz?
The easiset way is to quit XQuartz.app and then:
cp ~/Library/Preferences/org.x.X11.plist ~/Library/Preferences/
org.macosforge.xquartz.X11.plist
And where is it stored? I ran "defaults read > defaults.all", and
when I search the output, I have a com.apple.x11 with apps_menu, and
an org.x.X11 with apps_menu, but they both have a long list and I'm
only seeing the defaults in the "Applications" menu when running
XQuartz. I used to run XQuartz long ago, and the org.x.X11 stuff
might be left over from that, has the format changed?
com.apple.X11 is what it used to be named, but that was changed to
org.x.X11 for X11.app and org.macosforge.xquartz.X11 for
XQuartz.app ... similarly MacPorts' X11.app is org.macports.X11
One way to figure this out is to look at Info.plist inside the .app
bundle and look for the CFBundleIdentifier Attachment:
smime.p7s
Description: S/MIME cryptographic signature
