I don't understand the question, I'm afraid. Icons don't come into the
situation at all.
To clear up one potential point of confusion, 80x24 and 80x63 specify the
size of xterm windows, measured in character cells rather than in pixels.
And "unreadably tiny" is my opinion of the default font for xterms, which I
find uncomfortably small.
