You are right about the Finder/Delete Items freeze-up. PathFinder.app, however, does not reproduce these unpleasant panics (the app has undergone at least 2 upgrades since the appearance of Lion).
I have also noticed that Dashboard crashes (often but not always) when the Dashboard Desktop is accessed using the mouse-slide/touch switch. It does not crash when access using the Dock icon.
At this point I agree that Lion is not for the non-technical user, especially since support for PowerPC apps is gone.

I've wedged the Finder 5 times so far, three via network shares (which I can
option-Relaunch) and twice when it somehow got confused about the Trash and
got stuck in the kernel while trying to empty it, unkillable.
I've only had one hard freeze so far, but a few dozen WTF moments in less than a week of use. Lion needs another couple months of bug fixing ... I am so NOT recommending it to my non-techy relations just yet. regards, tom lane
