0xe2 is the letter 'b' (0x72) with the 8th bit set (the so-called meta
bit). This was (supposed to be) how some old text terminals sent
characters with the meta key pressed and this is what xterm is
emulating with the 8th-bit-input option.

does anyone know how to fix Snow Leopard? it broke input method
switching and is causing many typing mistakes so it is very annoying
