I have been trying to get the open source image editing program Gimp
to run on my iMac, OS X 10.6.8, and it won't. Neither will
Inkscape, but I haven't worked with that program as much to get it
running. Both require X11.
With all the different things I read and done, I don't understand
the relationship, if any, between X11 Quartz and XQuartz.
Folks involved with getting Gimp to run tell me I should not have
installed Xquartz, but I had the impression the two programs were
equivalent.
At the same time, I've seen a post that says both programs can be
installed at the same time.
Either way, I don't know, and truthfully, I don't care. :-) I
simply want Gimp to run.
The suggestion from the GimpOnMac people is to completely, totally,
remove both programs. Not just drag the apps from the Applications
folder to the trash, but remove every last trace of both programs
from my computer, and then install only X11 from my Snow Leopard
DVD.
So, how do I remove absolutely everything X11 and Xquartz related
from my computer, and how do I confirm every last shred of both
programs is gone before I reinstall X11 from my DVD?
