Users are more likely to do more damage than good by attempting to clean out system X11 files, and I see no benefit to doing this. In the old (pre-SL) days where XQuartz installed in /usr, maybe.
AFAIU the recommendation on 'GIMP on OS X' to fix a broken X11 and
Xquartz installation was to remove Xquartz and reinstall Apple's X11
using either a Combo Update or from the Mac OS X installation DVD, or to
ask here how to fully restore Apple's X11.
(I didn't write any of those recommendations, btw)
