If you just want to use Emacs on the console window, use the Cocoa GNU
Emacs from http://emacsformacosx.com/.
On the other hand, if you really want or need an X11 Emacs, I do the
following (after installing Xcode):
% cvs -z3 -d:pserver:email@hidden:/sources/emacs co emacs
% ./configure --with-gif=no --without-x-toolkit --without-toolkit-scroll-bars --with-x
% make bootstrap
% sudo make install
First thing I do with a new Mac.
