defaults write org.macosforge.xquartz.x11 app_to_run "xterm -fa Monaco -fs 13 -sb -s1000 -fg yellow -bg black -geometry 80x50" did the trick! Thanks.
HOWEVER, it still doesn't see my bash profile:-(
