Xterm*geometry: 80x50
You don't mention this issue, but with this geometry specification the
xterm menus will be tiny. This is because although the geometry of the
main window is interpreted as character sizes, the geometry of the menu
windows is specified in pixels.
You want something like
XTerm.VT100.Geometry: 80x50
or else
XTerm*VT100*Geometry: 80x50
