Hi everyone,
I'm still trying to get a functional setup of the i3 window manager running under XQuartz on my 13" Retina Macbook Pro running OS X 10.11.2 El Capitan and am struggling.
I have the i3 window manager coming up now when I start XQuartz; however, the meta keypress isn't making it through to the window manager. If I use Command as the meta key in the config or if I use Alt (Option), I get the same results.
I have tried all combinations of the following preferences settings:
* Follow system keyboard layout
* Enable key equivalents under XQuartz
I had though that maybe my problem would be solved if I ran in full-screen mode; however, when I select that option, all of my XWindows simply vanish until I come back out of full-screen mode.
The only local configuration I have done is to install i3 from homebrew (brew install homebrew/x11/i3-4.11) and to create a ~/.xinitrc.d/i3.sh file that contains:
#! /bin/sh
USERWM=/usr/local/bin/i3
In addition, I ran the i3-config-wizard script and used it to toggle which meta key I would be using, deleting the existing one in .config/i3/config before each re-run.
Finally, I tried the sample configuration file from /usr/local/etc/i3 and was unsuccessful there as well.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!
