Jeremy H will explain you better why this won't work than I can, but at the moment it simply won't work because of missing features in XQuartz.
Let me guess, you're running a Linux version with the "KDE5" desktop environment, in VirtualBox? I manage to do that with enough success to evaluate at what point KDE5 isn't ready for prime-time yet (O:^)) but I have to deactivate video hardware acceleration in VirtualBox.
As long as you're not trying to run stuff you'd probably better be running on real silicon anyway you should be fine performance-wise with that setting.
