Hi All,
I've had random window raising and focus problems for quite some time, but lately they seem to have gotten worse, so I'm sending this email. I've had these problems off and on, to a greater or lesser degree since before Tiger and have just been putting up with them. They are
very, very random, with no apparent pattern and are not reproducible. I can sometimes go days or weeks without any problems. Sometimes they occur all day long.
I'm currently running El Capitan (10.11.2) and XQuartz 2.7.8 on a MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), with stock 8GB memory and a NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB.
The individual problems are:
1. When using a non-X11 app, say a web browser, suddenly for no reason, all X11 windows (mostly xterms) will all automatically raise, although the cursor focus remains with the current app. Clicking in the active app window will not raise it (as it retains focus), so I need to click in one of the xterms then the original app, to make it raise again and lower all of the xterms.
2. When using a xterm, it will suddenly lose focus, (I use a block text cursor, which changes to an block outline) yet the menu bar still shows XQuartz as the active app. Sometimes clicking in the xterm will return the focus, other times the cursor just disappears and the only way I can get it back is by cycling through currently running apps with Cmd-Tab, back to XQuartz. Other times, the focus will return by itself after 1-2 seconds.
My XQuartz preferences that are checked/selected:
Input: Emulate three button mouse
Output: Colors from display
Pasteboard: All prefs checked
Windows: Focus on new windows
Security: Allow connections
I've Googled these problems many times and haven't found any clues to the root cause. I realize that there may not be enough information, and more debugging info or log info is needed. Any help/ideas/pointers in trying to diagnose and fix these problems would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
