Does this mean that anything linking to libXt.6 has to be rebuilt?
If I'm not mistaken it would have been possible to install the libXt.6 2-level runtime library with a slightly different name, point the link library libXt.dylib to that new version, and maintain the flat libXt.6.dylib with its old name so that preexisting binaries continue(d) to work. If correct, why has that approach not been taken?
