The uninstall script for a given tools version is really tailored for
that version. There is no good way to ensure that the uninstaller
scripts has proper information for what gets installed by previous
versions of the tools (when the content overlaps, this isn't a big deal,
but it items are added or removed, it can cause problems).

To be honest, these issues are among the few things that really might
turn me away from Mac OS X. You guys at Apple call this "world’s most
advanced operating system"?! Then why is there no proper package
management? Why doesn't a .pkg know which files it installed? Why isn't
there a tool for listing all the installed packages? Why can't I look up
the files a package installed, or to which package a certain file
belongs? Why is there no simple way of removing a package completely?
Never mention dependency tracking...
Seriously, if your marketing people make the above mentioned claim, they
probably never worked with a Debian/Ubuntu/Suse/whatever_linux_you_like.
Or they just never tried to uninstall something which is not in an .app.
I do hope that future Mac OS X versions will focus more on the
foundations of the operating system and not on the
fancy-and-sexy-but-totally-useless desktop effects.
