Unless it's Xcode not finding the file, you're probably better off
asking on a list related to the technology you're using (e.g. Carbon
or Cocoa).
Presumably Xcode is putting the bitmaps into your Resources folder,
so you'd use the appropriate CFBundle/NSBundle type routines to get
at them.
