Not perfect, but you can set up a Behavior (Xcode > Behaviors > Edit Behaviors) to show the project (tree) view panel and hide the console/debug output view. Then assign the behavior to a keyboard shortcut and use that to clean up the window. Still requires a key press, but may be easier than trying to do everything manually.
