Future bluetooth developer and switcher

Hi, I'm an student at NTNU(Norwegian University of Science and Technology), and I'm thinking about different projects for my final semester. I'm future switcher and have used OS X before (or mac for that matter), and therefore I have little knowlegde of what kind of java-support OS X have, especially when it comes to bluetooth. I'm thinking of developing an application that uses a bluetooth connection between a portable computer and an mobile phone. My question is the following: Can this be done (relativly easy) in Java on OS X? Is it correct that the Apple Bluetooth API only supports Objective-C and C++ ? If yes, which should I learn? Questions about subclassing IOBluetoothOBEXSession

To whom it may concern: My goal was to subclass IOBluetoothOBEXSession because I needed some unique instance variables and methods not contained in this class. There is one problem. The class method withIncomingRFCOMMChannel cannot be properly used by a subclass because it is defined as: + (IOBluetoothOBEXSession *)withIncomingRFCOMMChannel: (IOBluetoothRFCOMMChannel*) inChannel eventSelector:(SEL)inEventSelector selectorTarget:(id)inEventSelectorTarget refCon:(void *)inUserRefCon; With this definition, a subclass of IOBluetoothOBEXSession will always return the IOBluetoothOBEXSession type instead of the subclass type. It seems to me that the standard objC approach would have been to define this class method as follows: + (id)withIncomingRFCOMMChannel: (IOBluetoothRFCOMMChannel*) inChannel eventSelector:(SEL)inEventSelector selectorTarget:(id)inEventSelectorTarget refCon:(void *)inUserRefCon { id newInstance = [[[self class] alloc] init]; ....Do whatever you do to setup an OBEXSession... return [newInstance autorelease]; } This way when IOBluetoothOBEXSession is subclassed and the withIncomingRFCOMMChannel message is received by a subclass, the instance returned will be the same type as the subclass. Do you agree? Of course, I found another way to accomplish what I wanted to do. I would have liked my design better if the withIncomingRFCOMMChannel method were defined as mentioned. Unfortunately we cannot comment on future releases at Apple, so I cannot say whether we are or are not working on SCO. What I can tell you is what is missing from the current implementation. Currently the Apple HCI controller driver does not open any of the SCO pipes to the USB device, so this is the major missing piece. Additionally, there is a hardware question to answer before you know if support will be possible with a given dongle. Some Bluetooth silicon will support SCO with the audio being piped across some external HW codecs and ports, which are not available on the USB bus, where others will provide access to incoming and outgoing audio data over the USB interface. So what is needed from the Bluetooth perspective is the addition of code to open and read/write the isochronous USB pipes on the Bluetooth dongle married with a USB dongle which can support the audio data piped over the USB interface. On top of the Bluetooth pieces that are missing is the code needed to pipe data into and out of the Mac OS X audio system. Is anyone currently working on adding these missing pieces (third party or Apple)? What underlying plumbing is missing for SCO? Is this missing plumbing hardware, software, or both? If all the hardware is there and no-one is about to release the missing software, maybe I can get to work on it. BlueTooth Baseband Layer

Hello I am working on BlueTooth Baseband (MAC) Layer. I have already successfully simulated (using C/C++) the Master driven TDD 3-slave Piconet for single slots packets (DH1) and control packets (POLL and NULL). Currently I am working on simultaion of the same Piconet for 3 slot packets (DH3) along with all the control packets (POLL and NULL). I have developed a scheduling algorithm in the Master node, which schedules the servicing of the packets to the particular slave by taking in to consideration the current status of the Queues in the master node(one queue is maintained in Master for each slave). I have obtained fairly fine results for the throughput for Asymmetric operation, that is Master node sending either DH3 or POLL packets and slave node in response sending either DH1 or NULL packets. I am trying to have the symmetric operation of this piconet, that is both Master and slaves sending DH3 packets to each other (instead of the slave sending DH1 packets as described already). In order to accomplish this, I definitely need to change the scheduling algorithm at the Master node, which will Schedule the packets for the next slave (that is servicing its own queue maintained for each slave in its own node) by taking in to consideration the current status of the slave queues aswell(which are maintained in the slaves, one queue each slave). Could anybody put forward some suggestions in this regard. I would be thankful for suggestions from all of you.
