I need to make an application that measures either RSSI or Link Quality.
I've been going through the archives and seen a couple of posts related
to this and from what i gather in those posts is that this isn't
currently possible in Mac OS X(?). I must admit that I don't know a lot
when it comes to programming but usually I manage to find a way to hack
my way through things and somehow end up with a program or script
actually doing what I want it to do. I don't understand Apples
programming documentation or the header files but have managed to hack
out a little program that lists paired devices, lets you select one and
creates a baseband connection to it (that times out after a while). I'm
mostly wondering, if you can't get RSSI or Link Quality, then what do
these mean in IOBluetooth/Bluetooth.h and how are they used?
// Command Group: Status
kBluetoothHCICommandGroupStatus
= 0x05,
kBluetoothHCICommandReadFailedContactCounter
= 0x0001,
kBluetoothHCICommandResetFailedContactCounter
= 0x0002,
kBluetoothHCICommandGetLinkQuality
= 0x0003,
kBluetoothHCICommandReadRSSI
= 0x0005,
best regards,
Pall Thayer

I am trying to use a Motorola HS820 Bluetooth Headset to work with an
Anycom USB-240 Bluetooth dongle on my Powerbook G4 1GHz running 10.3.7.
The USB-240 has the Silicon Wave SiW3000 chipset. The Bluetooth setup
Assistant finds the headset fine (after selectig "other devices"), but
when I press "continue" I get the following message: "Failed to set up
the headset. Headsets are not supported on your Bluetooth hardware."
This Anycom dongle does support headsets and Anycom's tech support
believes that the MacOSX Bluetooth stack does not support the Silicon
Wave SiW3000 chipset. Is this the likely reason? If so, is there a work
around?
