So a simple check if NULL before doing anything with it will suffice. And if NULL, then connecting and disconnecting should give a UUID next time. Yes, UUID will be NULL and converting it to a string will fail. Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure I can change the address in the hardware (CC2540) and don't really want to reset all my phones settings. I guess I could reset my sons iPad mini when I can prise it out his hands. On very first discovery, will the UUID just be NULL?
