Rick, if it's low-volume, you could also opt for enterprise deployment and skip the AppStore. We also had to send in hardware (you have to check iTunes connect manually as you don't get a notification when they reply to you, and at some point it moves into "Meta-data rejected" when you don't react in time.). Rick, do you put the name in SCAN_RSP or in ADV_IND data? Is there any difference if you put it in the other packet? Do you observe that OS X uses active scanning (sends out SCAN_REQ packets) with a Bluetooth sniffer? Rick, have to issue another readValue call, as this is profile-specific. What you write into a characteristics is not linked to what is returned when you read it. There are also write-only characteristics (control points) where reading out a value wouldn't make sense at all. It's just a convenience for many characteristics like "Device Name", that the value that was previously written is stored for later read-out. Fred, 1. No, you also don't get an event when a device connects / disconnects. Use something like keep-alive in order to see whether connections are still alive (this will affect battery life if your app is backgrounded) 2. Also no. Only possible with the Central manager. Don't get names during scanning on OS X, but do on iOS?

I'm trying to write a little OS X utility to help me explore the BLE peripherals we're developing. On iOS, we're able to find them and get their names from the advertisement data (usually the .name property is nil). But on OS X, it's all nil. What's up with that. Even allowing for duplicates (not necessary on iOS), I get names. Works in iOS simulator; does not seem to work on OS X.
