Hi I am sure there are many on this list who have had to deal with reproduction of historical documents for state or national archives. I have a client who is using a Kodak Creo iq3 scanner with OxyGen software to scan documents ranging from 19th century glass plates, albumen and silver gelatine photographs, water colour and ink illustrations, hand coloured B&W images right up to modern day emulsions. We have built two profiles in ProfileMaker. One based on a reflective photographic target for standard emulsions and one based on a Colourchecker SG target for other reflective media. With a small amount of tweaking in Profile Editor we can get the white, grey and black patches on a X-Rite greyscale checker to match the target RGB values in Adobe RGB within one level. My question is, is there a subject based spectral response to the scanner light source that will render each of these types of original material differently with respect to the colour checker patches. In other words, are we likely to have to build a material specific correction for different types of originals? We have found, purely visually on a small range of samples, that there seems to be one type of cast for one material and a different cast for something else. Without going into specifics, is this an accepted issue and would a workable solution be scan all reflective originals with the same scanner profile and run a different photoshop action as a correction layer for each different type of material. This would seem simpler than having 10 different edited versions of the scanner profile, and would be easy to adjust over time as more samples are taken into account. Thanks in advance. I'm trying to get hold of more detailed information on the new i1 Display Pro for a blog article. Does anybody know anything more about the filters it uses? How many? Color Mgmt. Software

Hello all - I am hoping to get some advice regarding color management software. I am currently on Mac OS 10.6.3 with 2 x 2.93 GHz Quad-Core Intel processors. I am trying to run ProfileMaker Pro 5.0.10 on this system, and am having some difficulty opening an image to evaluate edits in ProfileEditor. I am getting the "beach ball", and then have to force quit. I am able to run ProfileMaker to create a camera profile, but when I try to edit it in ProfileEditor, I run into problems. My question is this: Is there a patch/cure for this, or is it time to tell management to buy some new software? I have been to X-Rite's site and see that this software has been discontinued, and I have the latest updates. If it is time for new software, I am open to suggestions. I currently use an i1Pro spectrophotometer, and would like to stick with that device. I would like to have a comprehensive software suite to create camera profiles, edit profiles as well as take control of our CMYK pre-press proofing workflow (Epsons to simulate press output). The possibility of switching to an RGB workflow is an issue that will have to be taken into consideration, as well. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks! Hi Guys I see many posts on the issue of profiling. There are references to specific profiling tech. Try ColorLogic.de Copra is the best profiling tech I have ever used bar none. I'd also suggest switching off Open GL, I had the same type of problem with a Macbookpro/Eizo combination. That is why Preview is unaffected - it's a Photoshop problem, nothing to do with your calibrations.

Color Match with 2nd Monitor

Greetings to All I feel sure this has been hashed over previously but I am unable to find the solution in the archives. I am running a 2nd monitor (NEC MultiSync P221W) with my MacBook 10.6.7. Calibrated with NEC Spectraview II. I use the MacBook as the "Primary" monitor for menus, tools, etc. and the NEC for image work. When I open a file (jpg-srgb for example) in Photoshop CS4 and drag it over to the NEC the image desaturates greatly. I don't know how to describe the amount of change but let's just say that it is quite obvious. If it looks correct on the MacBook screen then it is desaturated on the NEC and conversely if it appears correct on the NEC it is oversaturated on the MacBook. Now, if I open the same image in Preview it stays consistant across both screens...No visual change. I am at a loss as to which monitor to "believe". Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
