Yes. Extract the members of all source archives (eg. using "ar x") and add them to the target archive. The ar program isn't very smart about what it allows you to add to an archive. On some platforms, such as AIX, you purposely add both binary and non-binary data to an archive to produce a distributable package. You can see an example of archive extraction and here: http://cvs.openwbem.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/openwbem/ow_ar.sh?rev=1.5&conte… This ow_ar.sh script acts as a wrapper around ar, which expects the path to the ar program and any "unusual" parameters as the first arguments followed by a '--'. It will extract the objects from each source archive provided thereafter, rename them so they don't collide with each other, and create the target archive. Example usage (to clarify my horrible description): ow_ar.sh /usr/bin/ar -- cru TARGET.a source1.o source2.o SOURCE3.a ... This will create TARGET.a with the object files from SOURCE3.a and all of the other objects specified on the command line, while avoiding object file name collision. Best way is to not use huge static arrays. Dynamically allocate the arrays from your program's entry point, and free them when the program quits. Fortunately, these headers and libraries are available via the source code that Apple publishes. A lot of work is currently being done at OpenDarwin to develop a build system for Darwin. I tried to build the gcc- os-3.5-3506 project, but that failed miserably after about 7 hours. I discovered that I could run: on Libinfo-221, and thereby avoid building it, which allowed my build of ChatServer to continue, but it failed again with: apple_authenticate.c:38:30: error: Security/checkpw.h: No such file or directory apple_authenticate.c: In function 'apple_checkpw': apple_authenticate.c:74: error: 'CHECKPW_SUCCESS' undeclared (first use in this function) apple_authenticate.c:74: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once apple_authenticate.c:74: error: for each function it appears in.) apple_authenticate.c:74: warning: implicit declaration of function 'checkpw'` I found that header (checkpw.h) in libsecurity_checkpw-7 and tried to build it, but I found nothing to even get started. There is no makefile, and the xcode project fails with dependency errors on Directory something-or-other. Is there something fundamental I am missing here? This is my first time trying to build a darwin project, but I thought on a Tiger workstation this would be relatively easy. If there is some prerequisite reading I need to do that will help with the build process then any pointers would be appreciated.
