Why is rsync in 10.4.5 darwin still based on 2.6.3? I'm seeing the
protocol corruption error that this post http://archive.netbsd.se/?
ml=rsync&a=2005-09&t=1344997 suggests is fixed in 2.6.6
Apparently this it the bug that is apparently worked around if you
turn off spotlight on the source (not dest as you should already
have it off on the dest drive) drive.
Hmm... well, I patched rsync 2.6.3 for my Linux box and it exhibits
the problem when rsync between local repositories. So I don't yet
understand the work-around with Spotlight.
I note that rsync as patched by Apple will segfault every time if you
run as root and try to rsync the top level of an HFS+ volume, if you
try to use the -E extended attribute switch.
I've made a go at patching 2.6.6 rsync. If I get it to work, I'd like
some testers. No promises at this point, but I need this myself!
