Is there any other API that I can use to accomplish launching a process and then reading from its stdout and writing to its stdin that works on both Jaguar and Panther using non NSTask stuff. I tried looking at popen's source and doing the pipes and forks like it does it but fdopen keeps returning EINVAL (22) not liking the "r+" mode I send it. It is installed with the prefix 'g' glibtool, glibtoolize. GNU libtool is by default installed in /usr/local , so it will by default not overwrite Apple libtool when installed. It is also great for checking through Receipts in /Library/Receipts to see exactly what package installers did. Well worth the shareware fee for me at least. Personally I prefer to build cctools (to get ar/as/file/ld/libtool), which you can modify to enable extra features that apple has disabled. While this helps with some tasks like autoreconf etc..., I have a much more elaborate/complicated profile file which sets additional and specific environment variables that aids building and you may want to look into this further. As well, if you're attempting to build anything that uses the X11.root.tar.gz file which is missing, I've managed to generate this root file along with a dual architecture (x86/ppc) darwinbuild binary in an installer package that makes installation easier. The only file I was unable to locate and build in a dual architecture structure was the source for the libXplugin library since a search at darwinsource.opendarwin.org yielded no results I kinda left it for now figuring it would pop up eventually. -Daniel This email sent to site_archiver(a)lists.apple.com
