Also, if you look at the Mac OS X documentation booklet (all 20 pages of it), the BSD license is re-printed in the last few pages. I though 4.4BSD-Lite was in the public domain, but I guess I'm wrong. Actually, you are wrong. If BSD-Lite was in the public domain, then Apple would be within their rights not to include the BSD license. Public domain means that no one entity owns the copyright to the work. BSD is not public domain, it is a copyrighted work. Hence the need for the license. Files from BSD -do- include the BSD license. Go look at any of the files in xnu/bsd/* and you'll see that right after the Apple license header is a BSD license header (occasionally with a NeXT header in-between). Darn list filters. :) Here we go. The patch maps to OS X 10.1.3. I havn't gotten 10.1.4 yet. The only catch is that the ibook has to be plugged in. If it is running on battery then after about 5 minutes or so it does a hard power off. This seems to be hardware and not software related as it does it in single user mode and nothing is logged about it (you can actually see my logging function call in the patch file, you probably will want to remove that so you don't fill your syslog up with those notices.) To control it, go to a shell and do sysctl -w kern.ignoreclamshell=1 to disable sleep and =0 to re-enable sleep. Be warned, I suggest you turn off your display first (I just turn the brightness all the way off with the F1 key). It stayed pretty cool for me that way. If I understand what you are wanting to do this should work for you. From what I recall there was a "back door" method of keeping the computer awake with the lid closed by using an external monitor, which is probably what you were doing. I don't have a TiBook that I can test this on but in theory it should work as I did not see any other code for controller sleep mode when the lid closes. PowerBook G4 Lid Closed Mode

Hi folks, If this is off-topic, kindly let me know. This is a question about OS X, but it appears the answer lies in the Darwin portions of the OS :-) As of OS X 10.1.3, there is a well-known bug where PBG4 (just 667?) users cannot use an external monitor with the lid closed. This worked in 10.1.2 and below, and is listed as a feature in the PBG4 manual (pgs. 53 & 97). I've been told it's due to a defective heat issue. As a UNIX administrator, I'd love to keep current on OS versions, whilst still being able to use just the external monitor with the lid closed (1154x768 is too small, and using dual displays is too slow under current versions). I work in a climate-controlled server room (eg. COLD) and plan to keep an eye on temperature. So until Apple recalls TiBooks, or implements the functionality again, I'd like to do some playing around with the internals and see if I can come up with a short-term patch. I have a test TiBook to play around with and render unbootable :-). My questions: 1.) I looked back in the DARWIN-KERNEL archives, and saw some posts by David Hazelback and others, and his issue was very similar. Whatever came of that? 2.) I'm mostly in a familiarization phase right now. Which areas would I want to focus in? From what I can see, what I am looking for is probably in a KEXT somewhere (perhaps AppleHeathrow?) procfs and installing 6.0

Sorry about the bogus post this morning but now I have a relevant question... I noticed while compiling xnu that procfs is not built by default, in fact when I checked it isn't in the MASTER.ppc and it doesn't have a Makefile associated with it. When I added it to the MASTER.ppc and gave it a Makefile it would not compile because it seems that it is out of date. Is procfs not going to be supported under darwin? Also, I built and installed the 6.0 kernel (without procfs :/) and tried to boot but ran into an error which said there was a problem loading IOPCIFamily.kext. I rebuilt it and replaced it but got the exact error.
