Capturing System-wide keystrokes.

Hi everyone, I am writing an app that runs in the background and captures system wide keystokes in order to manipulate them to produce different effects ie. to change the behavior of the key's actions. Could someone suggest ways to do this. Effectively, I am intercepting keys and depending on which keystroke is received, I have to do something like a key substitution/manipulation. So, what approach is required. eg : If the user presses Ctrl+S, I may have to intercept this and send Alt+S to the system. Thus I substitute Ctrl with Alt. Please advice. Thanks & Regards, Dev Yahoo! You may not have looked at the right times, or you may have a runaway process or two. On my system, the VM goes up and down with usage. Note that if a long-lived process gets a couple of new pages every so often, while some other process is busy chewing up VM, it's likely that the former's pages will be interleaved in the new paging files, which will make it tough to throw them out, but by-and-large, I haven't seen real problems in recent kernels. Someone Who Knows will have to answer definitively, but I don't think this is cause for concern. I have a similar value on my system, with only one VM file currently. It's been up to 6 recently, depending on what I do. However, you have 55 processes, and we only see a few; what are the others up to? You can see the full list with "top -l n", where 'n' is a count of the number of iterations; the output is not updated via curses; it's just written as if to a log. Regards, Justin -- Justin C. Mac OS X - VM Working Set

Hello, I'm studying Darwin kernel and I found some information about working set on Mach Virtual Memory. "The first time that an application is launched in a given user context, the initial working set required to start the application is captured and stored in a file..... /var/vm/app_profile". I don't believe this is the case; writes have pretty much always been asynchronous, so that unless there is some serious blockage (e.g., out of buffers), the process can merrily go on its way after making the call (return happens after the data has been read; there are "edge cases", involving lots of data, where this doesn't happen, of course). Exactly write (muahaha) it seems.. :) Digging through the FreeBSD4.4 design documents, I came across this quote: "For example, a write system call will copy the data to be written from the user process to a kernel buffer while the process waits, but will usually return from the system call before the kernel buffer is written to the disk." So it seems that is the authoritative answer, which is what several people have 'guessed' at.
