site_archiver(a)lists.apple.com Delivered-To: darwin-kernel(a)lists.apple.com Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it's my understanding that in Darwin 7.x dynamic_pager will create brand new swap files of increasingly larger sizes as swap demand increases. When it does create a larger file, does it transfer the swapped pages to the new file, or does it keep all files it has created in use? Also, is there any function that will return, or a kernel symbol you can lookup, to determine exactly how many pages have been swapped to disk. The pstat command is supposed to have a -s option to list this data, but it is currently non-functional. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brian T. Sounds like I want to assemble some combined ELF & Mach-O Loader which loads ELF binaries and dynamically links them against ELF libraries (those deployed with the app) as well as Mach-O libraries (unless I want to provide a complete set of the foreign system libraries). So far I don't see a need to patch the kernel since mapping can be done in a user land app as well. Your words seem to confirm this. And in the PowerPC world, which address type is it ? I found it can be read/write directly, so seems it is a effective address. For normal NFS mounts, you can work around the problem where a cluster (or any system with multiple IP addresses) responds from a different address than the address the request was sent to by either using TCP (mount_nfs -T) or by specifying the UDP "noconn" option (mount_nfs -c). Unfortunately, when netbooting you do not get a chance to specify any of these options. The use of UDP is currently hardcoded into the NFS root mounting code. So you are out of luck at the moment. A bug has been filed to change the netboot code to attempt TCP mounts first and fallback to UDP if TCP is not available. This will make netbooting from clusters work. We need this because the nfs server is an HA cluster (the ip address of the server resides on one of the physical boxes in the cluster). In this setup the UDP replies from the server arrive from a different address than the one the nfs call was sent to. The client then responds with ICMP packets telling the server it doesn't want the packets. Can we configure the macosx client to either use TCP or allow the UDP replies from a different machine than the one it's contacting?
