Backward compatibility & Bluetooth

I've got an app to which I'm adding bluetooth, but I want the app to be compatible back to 10.1. Is there a way in which I can use the IOBluetooth.framework if it's available and not if it's not? I don't think this is possible without creating two separate apps, but I thought I'd ask... Testing Bluetooth client apps

Has anyone got tips on what a basic testing environment might be for bluetooth clients? I'm thinking "cheap and cheerful" :-) I imagine I'd need D-Links Bluetooth adaptor, but what about an easily obtainable Bluetooth device? Hello. I have another point of view of this problem, I have done some tests with a T68i and a HBH-30 headset. I believe that when the computer are connected to the T68i, the Dial-up or OBEX push profiles are used, but the T68i are connected to the headset using the headset profile. So this problem could also occurs because the T68i not are able to use multiple profiles at the same time, but I'm not sure maybe someone more familiar to the T68i knows. The headset only handle point to point connections and it can only have one remote device paired at the same time, this makes it impossible to use the headset (HBH-30) to the mac and the T68i at the same time. I have another question, how can I find and use the paired devices in the system preferences without using the BluetoothUI windows. It must be some way to find the information but I don't know how. Another question is, those SCO API:s discussed on this mailing list, are they on their way to be developed or released by Apple or is the release far away in the future. Do anyone know a release date or the state in Apples developing. Otherwise you are just passing a null pointer to the withAddress: method. So just change you line of: BluetoothDeviceAddress * devAddress=nil; To BluetoothDeviceAddress devAddress; And this line: IOBluetoothNSStringToDeviceAddress(devAddressString, devAddress); to: IOBluetoothNSStringToDeviceAddress(devAddressString, &devAddress); And that should work. I'm guessing that the problem is that you're declaring devAddress to be a BluetoothDeviceAddress * and passing that into IOBluetoothNSStringToDeviceAddress() instead of declaring it as a BluetoothDeviceAddress and passing a pointer to it into the function. With your code, you end up passing nil as the address parameter, so you don't actually get a valid address. Then, you likely get nil back from +[IOBluetoothDevice withAddress:]. Additionally, it is well worth checking the return codes from any of the functions or methods. In this case, you should see IOBluetoothNSStringToDeviceAddress() returning kIOReturnBadArgument. One other comment is that -[IOBluetoothDevice getName] only returns the cached name for that device. If a remote name request hasn't yet been issued for that device, you will get a nil back from the call. To actually issue the remote name request command, you need to call -[IOBluetoothDevice remoteNameRequest:]. Once that call is complete, you can then call -getName to get the device's name.
