IOKit Kext and Sleep/Wake

site_archiver(a)lists.apple.com Delivered-To: darwin-dev(a)lists.apple.com Howdy Folks, I have an IOKit kext that would like to know about Sleep, Wake, & Shutdown events. I need to stop (start) a thread and record the information during these events. I've read about power management in IOKit Fundamentals:Managing Power, but the kext doesn't actually affect the power of it's children etc. I just want to be able to handle these events so that the kext can keep track of what it is doing. Do I still need to do all of this with the Power Manager or is there an alternative? Also, note that the kext is a disk driver that can be part of the system disk chain. It doesn't appear that terminate() is called in the case of the system disk. This can make sense as the system disk is being used right up to the very end. Please correct me if I'm wrong here. I have searched the archives (and Google) and come up with nothing useful. I have an application which works nicely in Tiger, but has some major problems in Leopard. I spawn sub-processes with forkpty, and communicate with read and write (the standard Unix calls). I use forkpty in order to get unbuffered data, to avoid deadlocks and to deliver data promptly to the user. Tiger is actually very friendly; when the sub-process terminates, it seems to keep it open until I have read all data from it, and only when fully drained it really terminates. Under Leopard, it dies if I call waitpid(), which is legal. No problem, I keep reading until I get nothing, and then I check with waitpid(). This seems to work if I have a tight loop polling the fd, but if I don't poll all the time, any data sent close to termination is lost. OK, I thought, so I catch the SIGCHLD signal to know when it terminates? What I can see is the underlying toolsset of Xcode (compilers, make, jam etc...), but not the IDE itself. The eMail title made it sound like that should be in there, too. Sources have been posted for XCode versions 2.4.1, 2.5, and 3.1 Beta. And for completeness, we added a link for 3.0 that goes to the Leopard sources, since they are the same release.
