Hi all, I want to use and international Keyboard (a MS Internet Pro Keyboard on darwin x86 with French mapping - ISO 8859-15). But, would like to have french mapping when I start OS/X on my PowerBook in Console mode too. Found some doc about keymaping file on darwin, but I think this mostly for the Windows Server. Am I right ? Coming from FreeBSB world, I search man and found "man 5 keymap". But, where is the userland command line tools to set keymap. Is it a reality that this functionnality exist ? Since I found nothing on the apple and darwin site, I choose to hack a keyboard driver and to test this on an x86 darwin implementation with a PS2 Keyboard, since I don't want to crash my Mac.;-) So would like to know is there some doc on ADB. I'm ddigging into Darwin source code to understand the representation of appleUSAKeyMap[] a static array define in the defaultKeymapOfLength() method of most of keyboard drivers. I'm currently working on the internationalization of this drivers, since I found nothing in Console Driver able to map a new keyboard just inside the console. (May be I'm wrong ?). Does it is the right way to do it inside Darwin ? I took a look at AppleADBKeyboard and IOHIDFamilly but don't undertstand all especially mapping and order inside this array. I understood the concept of Key's modifiers in the first part of the array, but after ? Any help or link where I could find some infos will be appreciate ? Summary of major kernel changes between Jaguar and Panther

I am writing in hopes that someone at Apple has a summary of changes in the kernel between 10.2.8 and 10.3 (ie xnu--344.49 and xnu-517). I have the source to both and am digging through the diffs, but I was hoping for a concise primer from those in the know. As a side note, to get the diffs I first imported xnu-344.49 into my local CVS root, then copied all files from xnu-517 into the working xnu directory and then ran cvs diff . > diff.out. There is probably a more efficient way to do this, but this is the way I know how to do it. Anyhow, diff.out contains 182,802 lines, and I've probably missed many lines because of new modules in 10.3, that are not present in 10.2. kernel source.. I haven't dug down that far yet. A summary would be very helpful so that the darwin community can drill down to the important parts. I'd imagine you might need to enable the custom icon bit in the Finder Info on your volumn from your vop_getattrlist() call. In our project where we're doing something simular we ended up making a dummy /dev entry and IOMedia object so that DiskArb and such would be happy. memoryDesc->writeBytes doesn't seem to 'write bytes'

PROBLEM: My 'memoryDesc-> writeBytes' call seems to be working in that the returned value is as expected but the data that gets returned to the Userspace client is not changed. ================================================ PARTICULARS: My driver is overriding a Type05 device READ_CD function. After the super::READ_CD(...); call returns, I take a look at the buffer and, under special circumstances, may decide to change some of the data in the buffer. I call memoryDesc->prepare(kIODirectionOutIn); For purposes of checking on and confirming the map status, A memoryDesc->map(0) call is made (to get the IOMemoryMap*) and then a call to getMapOptions returns kIOMapAnywhere. Call bytesWritten = memoryDesc->writeBytes(myOffset, myBuffer, byteCount); Observe that bytesWritten == byteCount; It looks like all went well. Any ideas why the data arrives back in Userspace with no apparent change? I have a similar problem, only instead of a japanese keyboard, I am using my sun type 6 usb keyboard so that I can kvm my mac and my sun server. All of the extra keys (row of ten: stop, props, again, etc.) are mapping to an equivalent ADB code of 'a' or something equally useless as well. I am seriously thinking about modifying the keyboard extension, but I can't do that without the raw usb keycodes as was noted previously. I grab the sources, and after a bit of wrangling I got the USB keyboard to compile. I uncomment the extant kprintf() statements, and try the new driver only then realizing I have no idea how to get to the output. I do some searching, and discover that I should also be able to use the kernel printf() or log() function calls to get the logging somewhere I know about, but I have been completely unsuccessful on getting these to compile in. I can seem to figure out which headers I should use, and what if any changes I need to make so that everything links and builds nicely. The farthest that I have gotten is to install the debugging version of the usb kernel extension, but I was still not able to figure out how to get the keycodes from this. This and the development usb sdk might fix your problems compiling in the log functions. I haven't spent too much time looking at what they contain but I think that these might do the trick for you. The debugging extensions/sdks for each version of mac os x are available here: http://developer.apple.com/hardware/usb/usbloggers.htm Additionally if you just want the adb codes, ascii codes, and keyboard ref numbers, you can use the asynckeys utility available on macupdate. Just a warning though, that it stopped working for me after I installed the debugging version of the usb kext. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/5409 Finally I was wondering if anyone has a more general solution that does not involve hacking the apple usb extension. I am assuming that I am not the first unix developer who has plugged their usb sun keyboards into their mac. Is there any more general driver that allows the configuration of additional keys on a keyboard? Has any stubborn solaris developer already hacked a darwin driver to get the full functionality out of their familiar keyboard? I am clearly a newbie at writing device drivers and any other ideas would be more than welcome. Hi Sam, Did you call DiskArbInit() or DiskArbStart()? You can take a look at the disktool sample source as a reference.
