Undefined symbol trying to use notify_server

Hello ! I want to use the function extern boolean_t notify_server( mach_msg_header_t *InHeadP, mach_msg_header_t *OutHeadP); as defined in mach/notify_server.h, when dealing with dead port notification for threads and tasks. Yes, I am aware of TN2050, but I really prefer to do it this way, if possible. Porting realted

hi gies This is some what application level question but it may relate to kernel I am working on porting project which is from mac os x to win 2000 developed application uses memory model of MAC os 9.2 (now ok with OS X) but while porting to win OS the memory related functions is main problem if any one you have done kind of stuff then pls reply to this mail. If your logical mounts are more like network volumes, like a SAN perhaps, then you wouldn't publish IOMedia objects. Something I only just noticed today was that if you navigate to our mount point in a Finder column view window, clicking on one of our mounted logical volumes results in an icon for it appearing on the desktop. The icon is the black globe on a graphite external disk, just like the one you get for NFS mounts. So do we really need to publish IOMedia objects in the IORegistry? The fact that mounting an NFS volume results in the same icon on the desktop with no change to the IORegistry makes me suspicious. Hi Garth, thanks for the response. Our kext isn't an IOKit driver - currently its only interaction with the IOKit is to iterate over the IOMedia objects to find the disks it needs. Is this going to be a problem when we try to publish our logical volumes as IOMedia objects? Presumably if I fill out the details in the IOMedia objects like mount path and major/minor numbers, apps like the Finder will be able to interact with the logical volumes without any further handholding from us. i.e. no registered callbacks or other additional interfaces required. If this is the case, we should be home and hosed. I flicked through the IOKit headers and found IORegistryEntry::attachToParent(), which looks like the call I'll need. I then went into the IORegistryExplorer to have a look around and work out where we should add our IOMedia objects. Since I had an NFS mount on my desktop, I expected to find an IOMedia entry for it somewhere, but it was nowhere to be found. Indeed unmounting it and remounting it didn't result in any of the usual "IORegistry has changed" messages from IORegistryExplorer. Is NFS a special case? I grepped through other file system code in xnu but couldn't see any use of IORegistryEntry or attachToParent. Can anyone suggest a suitable parent in the Registry for our logical volumes? Should they go in the IOService plane or the IODeviceTree plane? I'll try a few variations in the meantime and see if we have any success. I'm sure this is probably something really obvious, but I'm not really sure where to look. Its erroring out on what looks like a syntax error, but more likely I am missing a header somewhere. Anyway, I'm new to Darwin so any help would be appreciated. VFS Mount/Unmount

I've been searching through the fs code in darwin and ext2fs and have found some difficulty to know what the the vfs/vnode layer expects from our filesystem. Currently we call getnewvnode followed by vget... this gives us 2 usecount's. We unmount doing a vrele. What significance does the usecount have in the system? How does the usecount effect the vnode inactive and free lists? Cheers.
