We have a separate small little app that does things like network availability checks, firewall checks, etc. It runs in the foreground and has a UI. After a user runs it, she can close it and continue the installation if every test passed. The way for a third party to modify the Installer's user-experience is to create an Installer Plugin. An example is available online here: http://developer.apple.com/samplecode/InstallerPluginSample/ You could create a plugin that either performs these checks, or one that optionally launches your tool. You can create a hybrid package that uses a standard InstallationCheck script in 10.3 and earlier and use a distribution script for 10.4 and later. With distribution scripts you can control both the title and the message for these types of checks (and since it is in JavaScript you have more control over what the string says). I defined some messages in InstallationCheck.strings. When cancel the installation, we not only get the defined message, but also get the default message:"*** cannot be installed on this computer" This email sent to site_archiver(a)lists.apple.com
