If you use the same package name (in Panther and older) or if you use the same CFBundleIdentifier (in Tiger and later), files that are in the receipt of the old package but not in the new package are removed. If you'd rather not rely on receipts being there, it's quite OK to delete files and folders during an executable that runs before installation or after installation. Apple frequently uses those kinds of scripts to clean up. Be very careful what you delete! The catch is that the new QT component is just one file, and the two that don't get replaced appear to be incompatible with the new code. I am mystified by this behavior. Never heard of anything like it. Is it easy to either email it to me privately or post it somewhere where I can download it? (Obviously, it should be "sanitized" to protect your intellectual property, so if it's not a big deal, make an installer than installs, say, TextEdit that exhibits this behavior.) I am going to make a wild guess that your installer is "rooted" at "/ Applications/MyApp.app/" and you're installing stuff into there. Re- rooting it to /Applications or to / should fix it. Or perhaps you're using the Locator in some atypical way that's somehow making it behave crazily. Wild guesses. site_archiver(a)lists.apple.com Delivered-To: installer-dev(a)lists.apple.com OS X packages don't have dependency support like rpm yet. -pmb I have looked through the developerTools/Conceptual/SoftwareDistribution docs and I can't see how to create a dependency in my package on another package. When I create a rpm package I merely specify "Requires: <rpm_package_name>" in the spec file and my rpm package has a dependency on <rpm_package_name>. I suppose I could use the IFRequirement file to look for a well known file from the package on which I want to create the dependency, but I was wondering if the OSX installer had a higher level notion of dependencies (at the package level) such as the rpm mechanism. The installer project is a single package project. The installer works fine on Tiger. But, on Panther the package flag isn't being correctly set for some reason; i.e., the user sees a regular folder not the application package with its icon, etc. What am I doing wrong?
