I need to prompt for a location of where to place the installed files. For example, I am building a plugin for Lasso. There is a "root" folder where a module could be accessible to all users or in a specific user/site folder. I'd need to read a list of directories and offer them as options. Any suggestions? I know that Mike at easysw.com (now with Apple) had made epm that would read a list file and create a simple package for installation by command line but I have found only a couple distros that actually use such a file. Is this your _whole_ Info.plist? In that case, the syntax is almost entirely missing. A property list (plist) file implements a very specific document type definition. It's too big a subject for an email. In the Xcode documentation, look for the document "Property List Programming Guide for Cocoa;" or there's a chapter about them in my book, referenced in my signature. You can check the syntax of a plist file from the command line by applying the plutil command to it: Additionally, installer package Info.plists have particular requirements, which it isn't easy to fulfill by hand. It's already been suggested that you use PackageMaker or Iceberg to generate (one time only) a package, pull the Info.plist from it, and hand-edit it for future use. You can then point the packagemaker command-line tool at that Info.plist. Hand-editing may not even be necessary, if the options you set in the generating application will suit you. All legal bundles have them, and support is built into CoreFoundation. Having JUST those two lines is NOT a valid plist. Open any Info.plist in TextEdit to see what else is needed. You CAN write several different bits of code to ADD those two lines (aka a "key-value pair") to an EXISTING plist. That's probably what you want. "defaults write" is probably the simplest way to add a pair to a keylist. It will be something like the following (untested): defaults write MyInstaller.pkg/Content/Info 'IFPkgFlagRestartAction' 'RequiredRestart' Assuming this line does not produce an error, and you can see the change in the file, it's working correctly. You're done. Ta-da. The other choice is, as others have said, to get a "good" plist and replace the one that PackageMaker makes with the good one. The Info.plist file actually had a typo in it that I didn't catch and has since been corrected. Create a prototype package with GUI. 2. Then extract the plist from that. 3. Use that plist (with any additional modification you need) with the command line tool.
