I would need to do it this way because the Distribution.dist javascript file runs when the main installer first launches. So the information needed that selects and deselects packages in the main installer would have to already exist, on a file on a disk for example, when the main installer launches. I also know that packages can depend on packages, so if one gets selected/delected, other packages can get selected/deselected, but I can't do it this way. I'd appreciate input on this. Your solution based on an application is a good one IMHO. It would avoid you the trouble of seeing your packages being installed without the plugin being run (command line / ARRD/ etc.). It might not be totally impossible to re-evaluate the choices from an Installer plugin (with _evalItem:forAttribute:incrementOnEval: for instance) but that solution would be unsupported, Maybe you could also contact the mothership and see if they can offer a better solution. I have specified in the distribution requirements "Result of Script" (Theoretically, I should be able to do it by setting a distribution requirement "File Exists on System", but that isn't working. It seems that it is able to produce a warning message when a file *doesn't* exist, but not when a file *does* exist which is what I want to do. Setting the Pass if... to True/False doesn't make a difference, and actually doesn't seem to change the distribution script. Actually, I edited the distribution script, but it still didn't work. So assuming I edited it right, maybe there is a problem with the actual Installer program.) But in any case, my question is simply that when I open my package, Installer gives me the message: "This package contains a program that determines if the software can be installed. They are also allowed to change the location (destination) for that package. What if I don't want the user to be able to change the destination location? I have unchecked "Allow custom location" in the project, but it still shows up and allows the user to change it. Is this a bug? There is a known bug who has not been fixed yet in Installer.app with the Select Destination step. This could that one. I installed iTunes 8.1.1 just to see a third party package, and their package doesn't have the Location column at all. It was perhaps made with an earlier version of PackageMaker that didn't have the "custom location" feature. i.e. I want the user to be able to choose which components are installed by checking or unchecking, but not change the location they are installed to. More specifically, if the location could be displayed for each component, with only some being changeable, that would be ideal. Your best bet is to avoid trusting PackageMaker (as it has a few bugs when it comes to remembering project changes) and to directly look at the Distribution Script. As documented in the Distribution Definition Reference document, a choice can have a customLocation and/or customLocationAllowAlternateVolumes attributes.
