If URL Access is broken in X, then Apple's should fix it. If you don't like
that it is broken in X, then tell Apple about it. And if you need the
functionality you are missing, you can always use OS 9 - it's your choice to
use X.
Personally, I don't think script writers are out of line for expecting their
scripts to work on either 9 or X, especially when the reason they do not
work in X is due to some bug or missing functionality due to the rush to get
X out the door. (Of course scripts that access features and applications
that are only found in X ("do shell script" command for example) are
exceptions.)
If you don't like that Apple is making you do their QA testing for them,
maybe you should complain to them about it. :) I'm not going to waste my
time tracking down Apple's bugs for them. Every time I buy a new machine
from them, I pay them hard-earned money so that I shouldn't have to do that.
That's what Quality Assurance departments are for.
