Sorry, but this irritates me to no end! Just how many of us are using Mac
OS X on UFS volumes? My guess would be a mere handful out of every Mac user
on the planet. I personally know about 350 or so people who use Mac OS in
both professional and home environments, and not ONE is using UFS!
Yet we have to be careful because that one person in wherever might be using
UFS. And gosh, we wouldn't want them to feel bad because the rest of us
have it a little better than them! Great solution...let's just get rid of
these nasty file ID's so we don't hurt the poor handful of hurt UFS users
feelings.
This has to be one of the most brain-dead and idiotic reasons I have ever
heard for removing/no supporting a good feature. (Right up there with
preferring file name extensions over file types and creators.) More and
more I see that with Mac OS X Apple (or should I say NeXT?) consistently
aims for the lowest common denominator, which to me seems to be in very bad
judgment. Throwing the baby out with the water is NOT the answer.
