What does that have to do with proper support of HFS+ features? Should we
only support the most limited set of features for scripting? That means
WebDAV, or ISO most likely. That's not the answer.
Secondly, HFS+ can present a UFS-like appearance to any one or any thing
that needs it without a whole lot of work, whereas getting UFS to act like
HFS+ is *not* simple.
NTFS, IBM's JFS, EXTFS3, the database that Be used and the AS/400 uses now
are all moving towards *better* not *worse* support of metadata. (I don't
mean resource forks either, although n-fork support s becoming more
prevalent.) Apple seems to be running like hell to get to a perfect state in
Mac OS X. Unfortunately, with the file system, that state seems to be stuck
in about 1975, or whenever it was that UFS came out.
Metadata is not only here to stay, but it is a major selling point for a lot
of filesystems. It needs to be dealt with as a priority, not some dammed
annoyance.
